Faith United Methodist Church in Torrance held its annual Matsuri of Faith on May 16. “Today’s matsuri is a reflection of that spirit and tradition begun over 50 years ago as we seek to share the love of God with you through delicious foods, a diverse blend of entertainment and games for children, and so much more,” event organizers said. “We will know that we have accomplished our goal if you feel joy in your hearts and have a smile on your face, and we will praise God for making it all possible.” Above: The 186thStreet School Chorus and International Children’s Choir performed. Their repertoire included “Everything Is Awesome.”

Gourmet hot dogs (Teri Hot Dog on the left, Suno Hot Dog on the right) are a festival favorite. Other menu items included chicken teriyaki bowl, chili fries, child rice, chili hot dogs, Chinese chicken salad, corn, hayashi rice, inari sushi, kalua pork bowl, lau lau, lumpia, malasadas, shave ice, Spam musubi, tamales, smoked tri-tip sandwiches, udon and watermelon. There was also a bake sale.
A variety of items were donated for the silent auction.
Saxophonist Justin Klunk performed with his band.
Kids enjoyed shooting hoops and other games.
Ray Sydney and Firm Soundation sang gospel songs.
Booths offered produce, plants, flowers and faithwear.
Lester Sasaki and Friends. Entertainment was also provided by Bunasawa Kai Judo and Japanese Jiu Jitsu; Kanani Kalama Hula; Fujima Seiyumi Kai; Elemental Funk; Ashley Beck; Bob Kuhlmann; Cuban Missile Crisis; and Faith Young Adult Band (FYAB).
