We're still a few weeks away from Apple's next big product launch, sex videos barely legal but more clues about the new lineup of gadgets are starting to emerge -- including the Apple Watch.
The forthcoming Apple Watch will be available in two new finishes, according to images uncovered in the latest watchOS beta, spotted by iHelpBR. The blog published photos from the watchOS startup screen, which indicate the next Apple Watch will be available in titanium and ceramic cases.
Apple has used a ceramic finish in the past, the last time being the Apple Watch Series 3, but this would be the first time the company has made it in titanium. Both options are likely to be higher-priced Apple Watch Edition models, which use more premium materials than the regular-priced, aluminum Apple Watch.
That in itself would be a significant change from 2018's Series 4, which did away with the Apple Watch Edition. The screenshots also indicate the new device will also come in a larger 44mm size, the 2018 models did.
Apple has experimented with different materials for the Apple Watch in the past -- remember the $10,000 18-karat gold model? And though the company has recently marketed its smart watch as more of a health-oriented device than a fashion accessory, the company still clearly wants to appeal to people who appreciate high-end timepieces. Offering higher-priced variations with more premium materials allows the company to do so.
What we don't know is what will become of the stainless steel Apple Watch. It's possible the titanium finish could replace it, or perhaps it will stick around as a middle-ground between the basic aluminum Apple Watch and the higher-priced Apple Watch Edition models.
We'll find out for sure in September. Apple is expected to deliver its next event on Sept. 10.
