“Still the Water” (2014, 121 minutes), directed by Naomi Kawase, will be screened on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. at the Japan Foundation Los Angeles, 5700 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 100, Los Angeles.
On the subtropical Japanese island of Amami, traditions about nature remain eternal. During the full-moon night of traditional dances in August, 16-year-old Kaito (Nijiro Murakami) discovers a dead body floating in the sea. His girlfriend Kyoko (Jun Yoshinaga) will attempt to help him understand this mysterious discovery. Together, Kaito and Kyoko will learn to become adults by experiencing the interwoven cycles of life, death and love.
Kawase is also known for such films as “An” (2015) and “The Mourning Forest” (2007).
