Microsoft has announced that it’ll be ?? ???increasing the price tag on select first-party titles to $80 in 2025. And considering Call of Duty is one of the highest profile games from a publisher Microsoft owns, it’s safe to say it’ll be on the list.
There have been rumors of price increases for years now, with publishers pushing the base price of AAA games from $60 to $70 over the course of this console generation. And, before we even get the next one, we’re seeing price increases on games and consoles.
Article continues after adPlayStation already bumped up the cost of their PS5 console in select regions, Xbox systems are confirmed to be receiving a big price increase in the U.S., Nintendo is pricing games at $80 on the Switch 2, and now Xbox games will get more expensive soon, too.
This isn’t exclusive to Xbox consoles, either. This will affect everyone trying to buy CoD games, or any other Xbox first-party titles that get hit with this price increase.
Article continues after adBlack Ops 7 is rumored to be the mainline Call of Duty release in 2025, with Treyarch going back-to-back and continuing the series. Leaks place the game to be set in 2035, picking up where Black Ops 2’s storyline left off. And, according to Xbox, it’s set to be the first Call of Duty game that costs $80 on release.
While standard third-party Xbox titles will still be up to publisher discretion as to whether or not they’ll be $80 on release, big first-party releases from Microsoft will be getting bumped to that heightened price.

And, while all the other adjustments made to increase the cost of Xbox peripherals and consoles, this one will affect big releases across all consoles. So, it’s safe to expect the price of Call of Duty to increase not only on Xbox, but also on PlayStation, Steam, and the Switch 2.
Article continues after adAt the time of writing, Black Ops 6’s price is still the same. It’s not clear if Microsoft plans to retroactively apply this change to any other titles they’ve put out at a $70 price tag like Indiana Jones & The Great Circle or any other recent, high-profile releases.
Article continues after adHowever, a Game Pass price increase wasn’t part of this announcement. As a result, it may be the most cost-effective way to get a few months of 2025’s Call of Duty in if you just want to have fun with it on release and drop it later.
