The watermelon trend is exploding all over Instagram right now, and it's a refreshing -- if not slightly odd -- change from the tired old unicorns in our feed.

Fashion journalist Ana Kinsella spotted the proliferation of watermelons on Instagram, declaring it the emblem of summer 2017, rather akin to 2016's flamingo.

A simple hashtag search on Instagram will throw up just over 4 million photos of a variety of different ways to lean into the summer emblem. From pool floats to watermelon lip-looks, here are just a few of the ways Instagrammers are smashing the trend.
