GARDENA — Cold Tofu, the nation’s premier Asian American improvisational comedy group, will perform at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute on Saturday, March 1, at 7 p.m.
This is one of a series of recurring performances at the GVJCI as the comedy group brings its unique form of comedy to the South Bay communities.
“Cold Tofu Improv is excited to continue our relationship with the Gardena Valley Japanese Culture Institute and to perform in the South Bay,” said Stefanie Lau, Cold Tofu managing director. “Since our founding in 1981, our goal has been to provide a safe space and training ground for Asian American artists to explore improv and comedy. It is partnerships with community organizations like the JCI that has enabled us to succeed at our mission.”
A second South Bay Cold Tofu performance is scheduled for May 3 at the GVJCI.
“The GVJCI is becoming a more active venue for arts events like Cold Tofu and our Second Sunday Jam ‘coffee house’ in addition to cultural arts and educational programming,” said Jeff Murakami, GVJCI board member. “We have the capacity for events ranging from 50 to over 300 persons and have even started a programming committee to help us identify other opportunities.”
