This year’s LA Pride Parade will celebrate the theme of “Power in Pride” on Sunday, June 9, by honoring three distinguished individuals as grand marshals, recognized for their remark-able achievements and dedication to LGBTQ+ rights.
The parade will have three grand marshals.
Icon Grand Marshal: George Takei, renowned actor and civil rights activist.
As an actor he was most known for playing Hikaru Sulu in the original “Star Trek” series and films. But he is also an accomplished activist for social justice and LGBTQ+ causes.
“To be recognized in this way by the LGBTQ+ community, an extraordinary group of individuals who have fought tirelessly for equality, is truly overwhelming. As someone who has witnessed the struggles and triumphs of our community over the years, I am filled with gratitude for the progress we have made and inspired to continue the fight for full acceptance and equality for all,” Takei said in a statement.
Legacy Grand Marshal: Cassandro, El Exótico, a lucha libre wrestler.
Community Grand Marshal: Kristin Crowley, the Los Angeles Fire Department’s first female and openly LGBTQ+ chief.
Over 150 contingents will march in the 54th annual parade. Starting and ending at Sunset Boulevard, the route will run north on Highland Boulevard, then head east on Hollywood Boulevard and south on Cahuenga Boulevard.
For those who can’t attend, the parade will be broadcast live from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on ABC7/KABC-TV Los Angeles and streamed on Hulu. ABC News transportation correspondent Gio Benitez and ABC7 Eyewitness News anchor Ellen Leyva will host the event.
Join the LA Pride Block Party on Hollywood Boulevard from 12 to 8 p.m. The event will feature local vendors and nonprofits, beer garden, food trucks, performance stage, and pickleball exhibition matches.
To avoid parking issues and street closures, attendees are encouraged to use Metro. On June 9, the Hollywood/Highland and Hollywood/Vine stations will be temporarily renamed Hollywood & PRIDE-land and Hollywood & PRIDE, respectively.
For just $3.50 round-trip, paradegoers can take Metro’s B and D Lines to the renamed stations. Metro also offers Park & Ride lots with parking at $3 per day, payable on-site.
For those driving, parking, and event access are available via Vine Street or Gower Street. For additional parking information, go to: https://hollywoodpartnership.com/experience-hollywood/parking
