It's no secret that the conversations we have Do Clothes Make the Woman?: Gender, Performance Theory and Lesbian Eroticismon Facebook are often different to ones we have on other social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram.
That's evident in Facebook's data about the most-talked about topics in Australia for 2017, with women, sport and music leading the charge.
SEE ALSO: How Facebook Watch will overtake YouTube as the biggest video platform"This year, International Women’s Day was the most talked about topic on the platform, with conversation driven by the Women's March, which ranked in the top ten global list, as well as the #metoo movement," Mia Garlick, Facebook's director of policy for Australia and New Zealand, said in a statement.
Second was the Melbourne Cup, a horse racing event that has steadily attracted controversy over the years.
In third was Australia's successful marriage equality vote, followed by the country's flag carrier Qantas -- spurred by discussions over new aircraft and its involvement in the marriage equality debate.
Also in the top five was the death of Chris Cornell, the voice behind Soundgarden and Audioslave, who passed away in May.
Compared to Twitter's year-end data for the country, Facebook discussions skews far more toward tragedy, sport and music -- rather than politics. Here's the rest of the list, for those inclined.
