Based on the 1980s August Wilson play of the same name, Ma Rainey's Black Bottomcatches up with its famous titular singer (Viola Davis) — the "Mother of the Blues" — and her horn player (Chadwick Boseman) during one monumental recording session in 1927 Chicago.

The dazzling trailer captivates with swingin' music and striking period visuals — and with both Davis and Boseman offering up their all in the preview, we can't wait to see how brightly they shine throughout the rest of the film. While critics are already raving about the pair's powerful performances, they've also been impressed by the film's moving homage to Ma Rainey and Black culture.
